On June 25, the report ‘From breeding for diversity to seed regulations/laws‘ was launched during a webinar organized by CTDT, Rete Semi Rurali, Oxfam Novib and other partners. The report summarized the main findings of an international seed legislation workshop held in Harare, Zimbabwe in November 2024. The workshop revolved around the question of how to promote an enabling environment for farmers’ seed systems. The webinar convened several members of the ‘Harare Community of Practice’, which was informally launched during the November 2024 workshop. Members of the CoP were updated about the African Union (AU) regional process for developing a draft policy framework for Farmer Managed Seed Systems (FMSS); and about the CoP’s plans to profile joint work on seed policies at upcoming international events like the Farmer Rights’ Symposium taking place in Manilla, Philippines, and the 11th meeting of the Governing Body (GB11) of the FAO Plant Treaty (ITPGRFA), taking pace in Lima, Peru in November.
The final report of the Harare CoP event was published on CTDT’s website but can also be downloaded from here.
