Green: Unit Manager - Climate Resilient Communities

Gerard Steehouwer is the Manager of the GREEN Climate Resilience Unit at Oxfam Novib, where he brings over 35 years of experience in environmental studies, ecology, and international development. His work has spanned gender mainstreaming, supporting environmental movements in the Middle East and South Asia, leading the Make Trade Fair campaign, and serving as regional manager for West Africa and the Horn of Africa. From 2015 to 2021, he managed Oxfam’s thematic units on Food, Land & Climate and Gender & Youth. In his current role, Gerard leads multi-country programs supporting smallholder farmers in adapting to climate change through just agricultural transitions, with a strong focus on agroecology, locally led adaptation, and advocating for farmers’ rights to seeds, land, water, and natural resource governance—especially in fragile and conflict-affected areas.
