Oxfam Novib’s Seeds programme partners with Indigenous communities and smallholder farmers across eight countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America to safeguard—and sustainably leverage—plant genetic diversity. As a joint initiative with leading civil-society organisations renowned for expertise in plant genetic resources, Seeds accelerates the development of resilient seed systems through strategic, locally led initiatives.
To achieve its goals, Seeds forges alliances with NGOs, government institutions, academic bodies and national breeding and research institutes, investing in collaborative projects that place farmers at the centre of innovation. By strengthening public-private partnerships and fostering local enterprise development, the programme ensures that high-quality seed varieties reach those who most depend on them.
Drawing on deep technical know-how in quality seed development, policy advocacy and regulatory frameworks, Seeds supports capacity building at every level of the value chain. Through these efforts, the programme not only protects agrobiodiversity but also bolsters food security and promotes inclusive rural livelihoods.
