Climate change and political instability are significantly impacting seed systems in Mali, where reduced crop yields, and increased pest and disease outbreaks threaten food security. Improving seed security, farmer’s abilities to cost-effectively access the right seed, is essential for farmers to respond to climatic and security challenges. The “Crop Diversity for Food Security” project aims to strengthen farmers’ and local organizations’ capacity to produce and distribute diverse crop varieties within their communities and shift from dependency on free seed distribution to a sustainable approach that strengthens farmers’ seed systems.
